A-2 became an official Army Air Corps
jacket and began use on May 9, 1931.Several manufacturers were contracted.
Horsehide was mainly used for this jacket, sometimes goatskin and seldom
steerhide. The A-2 was very popular amongst the pilots, and often proudly
decorated, but because of a shortage of leather, it became limited issue
in 1943. Even during the Korean war A-2s were worn.
